NOUVELLE FORMATION - Apprendre à aider sans s'oublier

La Société Alzheimer Brome-Missisquoi et Haute-Yamaska est à la recherche de personnes comme vous pour participer à notre tout nouveau programme de formation: Apprendre à aider sans s'oublier. Cette initiative est spécialement conçue pour les personnes proches aidantes accompagnant une personne vivant avec un trouble neurocognitif.
Cette formation unique s'adapte aux différentes étapes de votre parcours en tant que proche aidant, offrant ainsi un soutien précieux à ceux qui accompagnent un proche vivant avec la maladie d’Alzheimer ou tout autre trouble neurocognitif majeur.
Si vous êtes proche aidant pour une personne de 65 ans ou plus, ayant reçu un diagnostic, et souhaitez enrichir vos connaissances, cette formation en présentiel est faite pour vous.
La Société Alzheimer propose une série de modules de formation spécifiquement conçus pour répondre à vos besoins.
Module 1 -La période suivant le diagnostic :
Vous êtes une personne proche aidante d’une personne qui, dans les 12 derniers mois, a reçu un diagnostic d’un trouble neurocognitif tel que la maladie d’Alzheimer? Découvrez notre nouveau programme de formation Apprendre à s’aider sans s’oublier. Ce module touche la période suivant le diagnostic et vous permettra de mieux comprendre les troubles neurocognitifs et les ressources pour les proches aidants. Suivez cette formation.
Module 3 -La transition vers un milieu d’hébergement
Vous êtes une personne proche aidante d’une personne qui vit avec un trouble neurocognitif majeur en perte d’autonomie et vous souhaitez comprendre comment la transition vers une ressource d’hébergement (Ressources Intermédiaires, CHSLD) peut se faire? Ce module vise à vous outiller et à vous soutenir durant cette transition.

Background
According to Proche Aidance Québec, young caregivers are characterized as follows:
- 26% become caregivers between 6 and 12 years old;
- 50% of young caregivers play this role for more than 7 years
- 31% of young caregivers are helped by a relative;
- 15% of young caregivers are the only person caring for their loved one;
- Young caregivers are in the 6-25 age group;
- They offer between 14 and 27 hours of care per week;
- 69,8% of young caregivers are girls.
Caregiving is an unfamiliar concept to young people between the ages of 14 and 25, and yet they often are caregivers
without realizing it when they accompany :
- A friend who has a health problem or has been injured during a sporting activity, or who is going through a heartbreak, or
a difficult period in their lives or an addiction;
- A lover who is experiencing personal, physical or mental health difficulties that
whether temporary, chronic, severe or addictive;
- A parent with a physical or mental health problem, whether temporary or chronic
or an addiction;
- A brother or sister who has a physical or mental health problem, either
temporary, chronic or severe or an addiction;
- A grandparent in carrying out daily tasks or because they have health problems
physical or mental health, whether temporary, chronic or severe, or an addiction.
In their young lives, they play the role of caregiver without being fully aware of it, and they will be called upon to do so many times during their lives. When young people are aware of their role as caregiver, they keep the situation secret for fear that their parents will be blamed. In this way, they try to protect their family from the stigma attached to the cared-for person's health problem. They are sometimes ashamed to provide personal care for an adult. That's why it's so important to make them aware of this role and its impact on their physical and mental health, so that it doesn't have a negative influence on the pivotal periods of their adult lives, and so they don't burn out while they assist others.
Project Description
The aim of the project is to raise awareness among young people aged 14 to 25 of what it's like to be a caregiver. To do so, information and awareness kiosks will be set up in schools and community settings. In the form of a quiz, young people will answer a series of questions to identify whether they are a caregiver to one or more people around them. The aim is to inform and educate young people about the role of caregiver, while presenting the resources available in the community. Following this, two workshops, each lasting 1h30, will be presented in class. These two workshops will help students learn more about :
Neurocognitive Disorders;
- Effective and adapted means of communication with a person living with a neurocognitive disorder;
- The roles that young caregivers can play in the family environment while respecting their identity and needs;
- How to avoid burnout in a caregiving situation.
The target audiences are high schools, colleges, vocational training centers and youth centers.

À propos de l'auteur
Yves Bélanger est titulaire d’un baccalauréat en psychoéducation. Il œuvre depuis 35 ans dans le réseau communautaire et public auprès de la clientèle en santé mentale. Engagé en prévention du suicide depuis le début de sa carrière, il a notamment été directeur du Centre de prévention du suicide de la Haute-Yamaska pendant une quinzaine d’années. Il est présentement commissaire adjoint aux plaintes et à la qualité des services pour le Centre intégré universitaire de services sociaux et de santé de l’Estrie - Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke. En parallèle, depuis 2004, il présente des conférences et offre des formations visant le développement de saines relations interpersonnelles.
